What it’s like being human

So I posted about this already in the mebeliedfaArstechnica OpenForum, but I figured it would be nice to place the comments on my own site, as I almost never update it, and yet people still occasionally visit.

I saw it twice. Midnight showing Friday morning and again yesterday afternoon. For me, it was worth seeing it both times, because I missed some minor plot stuff the first time around that clarified the storyline for me when I saw it again.

Two weeks or so have passed since my last post, and I kind of left my thoughts in a cliffhanger.  To that end, I’ll resume my previous tale.

One thing that I did want to talk about was the part of me that’s not doing well with this.  It’s about 5% of me that lingers off the track of hopeful.  It’s the part that says, “I don’t deserve to survive this.”  A deep and troubled topic (I just realized this sounded dramatic, and I’m not sure if I should leave it in), but I’ll try to explain as best I can.

So, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything. I’ll get to where the inspiration for this post came from; first, some background.

As most people know, I’m stubborn about most things. Change is difficult for me to accept, though I’m working on it. Asking for help is a similar situation. Like I said, I’m stubborn, but working on it. : )

About the middle of August last year, I got a real zinger of a cold. Fever, chills, congestion, and lots of coughing. After about two weeks, the fever and chills thing went away. The congestion and coughing stayed around for the better part of 6 months. During that time, I started to feel sick a lot, seeming to catch whatever virus or bug that was getting passed around. I chalked it up a run of bad luck with the immune system, as I’ve been relatively healthy all my life.

Thought that this was amusing enough to share.  I’ve taken a few “Which Superhero are you quizzes?” over the years.  I’ve always gotten the result that I’m Batman.  Batman being one of my favorite comic book characters and the one hero I always admired, not too surprising.  However, this time around I got this:

Not too much of a change, but a silly little one.  To me, it kind of shows that I’ve changed slightly in the last few years.  I’ve always viewed my always getting Batman as my broody, doomed to the night kind of personality.  Spidey, though his life has been equally tragic, at least has a sense of humor.

There’s probably no significance there, but I’d like to think my personality has gone through a slight bit of a change in the last few years.  Here’s hoping it ’tis for the better.

It sounds like an interesting combination for a blog headline, but hopefully I can clarify my thoughts on what’s recently come up for me that’s been giving me a pain in the ass.  I’ve been lacking a serious amount of patience with myself.  In addition to that, I’ve finally come to the conclusion that my brain and me have the most dysfunctional marriage imaginable.  (more…)
